Availability is what powers patient self-booking. The fewer rules the better — start with a weekly template and override exceptions.

Weekly template - drag-paint blocks per day, set the visit types each block accepts

Calendar → Availability → Weekly. Click and drag to draw a block. Each block carries the visit types allowed in it (in-person, telehealth, intake) — colour-coded so you can see the mix at a glance. Most providers end up with two or three blocks per day; the more uniform your week, the less you will fight overrides later.

Single-day overrides

Override · Friday, May 1
Half-day

Conference morning - 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM blocked

Replaces the usual 9 - 12 in-person block on Fridays for this date only

Afternoon: telehealth only · 1:30 - 5:00 PM

In-person slots disabled for the day. Existing appointments on this date are flagged for you to reschedule.

Single-day override - wins over the weekly template, no edits needed elsewhere

For a day that breaks the pattern (a half-day, a conference morning, a clinic that closes early on the day before a holiday), add an override. Overrides win over the weekly template — you do not need to edit the template, you just stamp the exception. Existing booked appointments inside the affected window are flagged for you to reschedule; new bookings respect the override the moment you save it.

Time off

Add a time-off block to remove all availability for a date range. Use this for vacations, CME, conferences, or extended absences. Existing booked appointments inside the range are flagged for you to reschedule — they are not auto-cancelled, because cancellation is a clinical decision that needs human judgement (some patients you may want to keep on a waitlist for the day before).
